<image:title>Home - hi, I’m Kayla Patterson.</image:title>
<image:caption>I believe we are all stories still going. My goal as your counselor is to provide a safe space for you to talk through painful experiences and emotions, as well as advocate for your healing, so you can begin to write the story you truly want to live with your life. It is my deepest hope that, through our work together, you will develop a greater sense of purpose, insight, and hope — because your story isn’t over yet.</image:caption>

<image:caption>An Inclusive Space Providing a safe space for all people is not something I take lightly. In my space you will be met with inclusivity and care regardless of age, gender, sexuality, religious or political beliefs, race, or cultural background. I value the unique qualities that make you, you, and honor them within our therapeutic relationship.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Currently offering online + in-person sessions.</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s be real: Life gets crazy. Some weeks, it is easier to make it into an office than others — and that’s okay! With both in person and online options, you can choose if you’d like to come to the office, or meet from the comfort of your home. My in person office is based in Charlotte, NC, but I am available to see clients from anywhere in NC or SC via telehealth.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - My Approach to Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>I view the ability to take part in your journey to healing as the greatest privilege. Because each person is different, my approach to therapy is different with each person as I learn how I can best help you reach your goals. First and foremost, I am a person-centered therapist, meaning that I view you and your goals as the most important part of the therapeutic process. My practice is primarily guided by the ideals of existential therapy, and I am passionate about helping clients find and create purpose amidst even the most difficult life circumstances. In my experience, I have found that many difficult life circumstances stem from current or past trauma. As a trauma-informed therapist, I utilize Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat and relieve PTSD, acute stress, and anxiety symptoms resulting from traumatic and other life experiences. Lastly, I commonly draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and polyvagal-based techniques.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Who I Work With</image:title>
<image:caption>I have focused my practice specifically on working with adults who have experienced trauma, and I have experience working in a variety of settings, including crisis intervention, college counseling, community mental health, and private practice settings. I have worked with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, with concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, family of origin issues, grief, sexuality, spirituality, and more. I have specialized interest and training in treating those who have experienced trauma, those living with chronic illness, and those wrestling with faith beliefs. I commonly work with adults experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem, those who wish to rewrite patterns of generational trauma in their own stories, and those experiencing spirituality or faith concerns. I am available to work with clients anywhere in North or South Carolina via Telehealth, and have an in-person office in Charlotte, NC.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services + Fees - Is Teletherapy Really Effective?</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re new to therapy or used to receiving in-person counseling services, the effectiveness of teletherapy can be a concern. However, many clients say that they find teletherapy to be just as effective as face-to-face therapy, and they appreciate that they can participate in therapy from the comfort of their own home. While face-to-face therapy involves coordinating travel, work/school schedules, childcare, etc. around appointment times, teletherapy has the ability to take much of the stress out of attending therapy appointments. Still wondering if teletherapy is a good fit for you? Let’s chat!</image:caption>

<image:title>Services + Fees - I believe mental healthcare should be accessible, and therapy shouldn’t break the bank.</image:title>
<image:caption>At this time, I am in network with BlueCross BlueShield and Aetna North Carolina State Health Plan (BHAP) insurances. If you have a different insurance provider and would like to seek insurance reimbursement, I can provide you with a superbill at the end of each month that you can submit to your insurance company. Before booking an appointment, I suggest calling the number on the back of your insurance card, inquiring about your ‘out of network’ therapy benefits, and learning about how to submit an out of network reimbursement.</image:caption>
